Huddersfield Town still have so much to play for in the final few games of the season. With just seven games left in HTAFC’s season, they are in 8th and two points outside the play-off places.
The Terriers are currently without a permanent boss after Michael Duff was sacked with the Terriers 7th in League One. Jon Worthington was named as caretaker until the end of the season but now, after back-to-back defeats, Town are considering backtracking on that statement.
According to Daily Mail reporter Mike Keegan, reporting on X, Huddersfield Town are considering the appointment of a permanent boss before the end of the season.
He is reporting that Brian Barry-Murphy and Paul Warne are the two candidates who are ‘admired’. Warne has been out of work since being sacked by Derby County earlier this year, while Barry-Murphy is currently a coach at Leicester City.
Barry-Murphy was formerly Rochdale boss before joining Manchester City and managing their U23s.
Former Terriers boss David Wagner is also open to a return at some point. However, he does not feel that this is the right time.
Is their a plan?
The interesting thing about Huddersfield Town’s two main targets is there two contrasting styles of play. Given that clubs tend to want their bosses to play certain ways, this is a very strange cirumstance.
Warne plays a more direct and defensive style that has got him results in League One. However, it is not very attractive and it has never transfered over to the Championship.
Barry-Murphy on the other hand would be a much more exciting appointment for HTAFC fans. He was picked up by Manchester City due to his style that was implemented at Rochdale, something he could only have harnessed further at City.
Warne looks like a short-term appointment but Barry-Murphy would suggest long-term thinking.
The task ahead
Whoever is managing Huddersfield Town will have a tough task in front of them. They have still got to play two of the top four as they chase down 6th place.
It could even all come down to the final day when they face Leyton Orient.
The O’s are two points behind Huddersfield Town as things stand, so defeat would be very costly.
