Port Vale Football Club has formally denied recent reports suggesting that the club is on the verge of a high-profile takeover by a European oil conglomerate. Speculation had mounted following the circulation of an online article claiming that Luxembourg-based energy giant PetroEuropa was preparing to purchase the club in a deal set to be announced on June 1st.

In a clear and direct statement released today, the club confirmed that no such discussions have taken place, and no talks are ongoing with PetroEuropa or any other overseas corporate entity. The report, which promised lavish investment, stadium renovations, and a sweeping rebrand of the club, has been described by club officials as “entirely unsubstantiated and categorically false.”

“We want to reassure our supporters that there is absolutely no truth to the recent rumours circulating online,” the club stated. “No takeover is planned, no discussions have been held with any oil conglomerate, and there is no agreement of any kind in place. We remain committed to building Port Vale sustainably, with integrity and in alignment with our values.”

The club went on to emphasise its ongoing commitment to local ownership and community engagement, highlighting that any future investment or partnership would be approached with transparency and in the best interest of its supporters. Club leadership also noted that any legitimate developments of significance would be communicated directly through official channels.

Despite the lack of evidence, the viral article has caused a stir among sections of the fanbase and on social media. However, insiders at Vale Park have described the story as “fictional,” noting that the supposed motivations behind the alleged takeover — including vague references to regional influence and brand rehabilitation — have no basis in reality.

As the team continues to focus on its current League One campaign, the club has urged fans to remain grounded and not be distracted by speculation. “Our priority is on the pitch and with the Port Vale community. We encourage everyone to support the club with clarity and confidence, and not to be drawn in by sensationalist stories without foundation,” the statement concluded.
