The Crimson Tide entered the 2024 season with high expectations on offense. With quarterback Jalen Milroe returning for his second year, an improved offensive line, and five-star freshman Ryan Williams on campus, hopes were high. However, Alabama's offense underperformed, playing a key role in three of the team's four losses.

In response, head coach Kalen DeBoer reinstated his longtime offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, who expects significant improvement in year two of the DeBoer era. "We should be able to push the ball down the field," Grubb stated. "We should be able to finish runs and block explosively, creating an offense that truly threatens defenses."

One of the biggest surprises of Alabama's 2024 struggles was the lack of explosiveness. When Milroe wasn’t making plays with his legs, the offense often stalled. Grubb, known for leading high-powered offenses at Washington, helped the Huskies rank first in passing in 2023 and second in 2024.

A key difference between Washington and Alabama will be the quarterback situation. The Huskies had a clear leader in Michael Penix Jr., a first-round draft pick, while Alabama faces an upcoming three-way battle for the starting role. Grubb will have to decide between veteran Ty Simpson, redshirt sophomore Austin Mack, and five-star freshman Keelon Russell to lead his first offense in Tuscaloosa.
