Sheffield Wednesday are set to stay in the Championship this year and it could be another summer of change at SWFC. Whether that turns out to be for better or worse, only time will tell. However, the constant questions over Danny Rohl’s future and latest Dejphon Chansiri saga have raised concerns among the Hillsborough faithful.

Nonetheless, figures at senior and academy level will be planning for next season’s squad changes regardless. Decisions over those in the youth setup tend to come earlier than first-team matters, and the Owls are set to enact change over the coming months. In a bid to progress upcoming talents and make space for new additions, Sheffield Wednesday will need to move some prospects on. Now, The Star has confirmed four who are set to head for pastures new. They report that the Owls have informed their young players of their contract fates today (Wednesday) and four players who are set to move on at the end of the season are Sam Reed (22), Jay Buchan, Joey Phuthi and Cian Flannery (all 20).

22-year-old left-back Reed had performed well in the U21s after joining from non-league side Brighouse Town and has impressed in loans with Boston United and Scarborough United this season. Buchan, Phuthi and Flannery all joined in fairly recent seasons too and having spent time in other academies, they will feel well-equipped to go and forge careers in the senior game away from SWFC now.
