Ian Holloway said that he was not worried about losing anyone by waiting until the end of the season to offer new contracts to the Swindon Town players.

Having said previously that he would get his squad to fight for new deals with the club until the end of the season and would not offer any of the 13 out-of-contract players a contract before the final match. When asked about this strategy, Holloway said that he did not believe he would lose anyone because of this as he only wants players who want to play for them. He said: “If anybody wants to stay with me, then they need to prove to me that they can consistently do what I am asking them to do. Ian Holloway might need 'more than he thought' in January | Swindon Advertiser “But I wouldn’t be handing out contracts right now, not in a million years. “Let’s see where we are, our season has been so topsy-turvy it is unreal, and their performances at the start of the season got their manager the sack. They have gotten rid of one bloke, but they won’t get rid of me. “How confusing is it? Are we a good team or a bad team? Do you actually know yet? I am asking them to show me. “We are getting the pitch resewn as it drastically needs to be done; that is a cost that will come out of the budget. “All of that will happen [players getting contracts], but not now. If that risks some people talking to them, then so what? I want people to be here for the right reasons. “I will do that in my own time, and I will assess what is available to me, so they have to keep proving that they want to be here. “If they don’t want to be here, then goodbye.” Holloway added that the majority of players he would be scared of losing are already tied down for next season anyway. He said: “If people are worried that we might lose people, the main people who I could sell are in contract. “I could have sold Will Wright, he has got next year, I haven’t had a phone call for Harry [Smith], but I am sure I will in the summer, he has got next year, and Joel McGregor next year. “Hopefully, I will fend off bids in the summer as we have done fantastically well from now until the end of the season.”
